Judith Plaskow and Martha Ackelsberg Workshop - Dealing with Difficult Texts in Difficult Times (In Person, Zoom, and Livestream)

There are many passages in the Torah and liturgy that are potentially disturbing to contemporary religious and ethical sensibilities. Traditionally, Jews have responded to challenging texts in a variety of ways. How do or might we respond when we encounter narratives or prayers that feel abhorrent? This workshop will explore the problem of difficult texts through presentation and discussion. It would be helpful if attendees think in advance about a text they find especially difficult and bring it with them, but all are welcome, text or not.
