Types of giving

Your Annual Pledge

Instead of a traditional dues model, Shir Tikvah members make an annual financial pledge, which builds the financial foundation for our spiritual home. Annual pledge commitments make up our largest and most impactful form of annual giving. We ask every household to pledge generously, as you are able, to support our kehillah kedosha (holy community).

Sponsorships

Help us nurture the programs and services that are so important to you and make a lasting, visible contribution to Shir Tikvah.  Our sponsorship program gives you the ability to support a particular project, enriching our offerings to the congregation while freeing up funds for general operating expenses.  Underwriters can choose to be recognized or remain anonymous. Email here to discuss opportunities.

Campaigns

Throughout the year, we hold several giving campaigns to support Shir Tikvah. We ask you to give to these crucial campaigns in addition to your annual pledge. Campaigns include: High Holy Day Giving, Give to the Max, and our Annual Spring Event. You’ll find information on participating in our communications during each campaign!

Tzedakah

There are many ways to share with the congregation those important moments in our lives. The giving of tzedakah is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a simcha, to honor or memorialize someone, give thanks, or acknowledge an important date. Shir Tikvah will notify any persons or organizations of contributions made in their honor. Please send contributions to the congregation office.

Give Online

Give by Mail

Please make checks payable to Shir Tikvah and mail to Shir Tikvah at 1360 West Minnehaha Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55419

Schedule a Recurring Gift

We ask that you consider an ACH draw for your annual pledge or other recurring gifts or tuition payments. Please email here to set up or adjust a recurring ACH draw from your bank account.

Give by donating Stock

A gift of stock may provide more benefits than a cash gift. When you make a gift of stock, by eliminating the capital gains tax that would be due upon selling the stock, you receive tangible tax-savings and benefits. Speak with your financial advisor to discuss potential benefits as it applies to you, and email here for stock transfer information.

Give by recommending a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

A donor-advised fund is like a charitable investment account, for supporting charitable organizations you care about. When you contribute to a donor-advised fund, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth and you can recommend grants to virtually any IRS-qualified public charity.

Gifts from a donor advised fund should be made payable to: Shir Tikvah, Tax ID # 41-1632627. Mail to: Shir Tikvah, 1360 West Minnehaha Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55419. DAF gifts have some restrictions, so please consult your financial or tax advisor.

Give through a Qualified Charitable Distribution from Your IRA
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a distribution of funds from your IRA (other than a SEP or SIMPLE IRA) directly to a qualified charitable organization. Because the gift goes directly to Shir Tikvah, the dollar amount of the gift may be excluded from your taxable income up to an annual maximum of $100,000, with some exceptions. QCDs can be made by IRA owners who are age 72 (70 ½ if you reach 70 ½ before January 1, 2020), and many individuals who are required to take money from their IRA but do not need it for living expenses have chosen to make QCDs from their IRAs. Speak with your financial advisor about whether this is an option for your annual giving to Shir Tikvah.

Give with Matching Gifts and Workplace Giving

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions or volunteer hours made by their employees. Contact your employer to see if your giving can be multiplied with a matching gift!

Legacy (Planned) Giving

Build a legacy at Shir Tikvah with a gift in your will, trust, retirement account or life insurance policy.  Shir Tikvah can help you realize your philanthropic wishes, allowing you to make a larger contribution than you thought possible. We encourage you to consult your personal tax, financial or legal professionals for advice regarding your specific situation. Unless otherwise specified, legacy gifts will be directed to the Shir L’Atid fund to provide support to Shir Tikvah for future generations.
