Warm Cookies and Good Questions: Hanukkah and Winter-time Edition
December 20th 5:15pm
Are you new to Jewish practice and eager to learn the basics? Have you been coming to Shir Tikvah forever and worried that you don’t know enough? In this occasional series, we’ll confront our “not knowing” with cookies and conversation before Friday night services. This session will focus on Hanukkah and winter-time. Submit your question(s) on these or other topics here or bring them to the program. Your questions could be technical (“what direction do we light the menorah?”), philosophical (“do Jews need to ‘believe’ in God?), or anything in between. We’ll discuss a few of the questions submitted over warm cookies and milk. This program will be offered in person and on Zoom. If you are attending from home, BYO Cookies :~)
On Monday, December 23, 6 pm at Shir Tikvah we are having a pre-Hanukkah potluck dinner with other Shir Tikvah LGBTQ+/Queer Elders. Hanukkah in Hebrew means dedication and commemorates the Maccabees reconsecration of the Temple in Jerusalem in 164 B.C.E. Given Hanukkah is about rededication, we’ll take some time to speak about what or who we choose to (re)commit ourselves to this year. Come ready to share dedications as we enjoy our nosh and celebrate together. Please RSVP here and let us know what you will bring.
