Latkes and Learning: Political and Spiritual Tools for Dedicating Ourselves to Home

Latkes and Learning: Political and Spiritual Tools for Dedicating Ourselves to Home

Hanukkah memorializes the moment when the Jews rededicated their communal home, the Temple in Jerusalem, after it had been occupied and ransacked by the Greeks. In this session we'll learn about contemporary fights to maintain the wellbeing of our and our neighbors’ homes against the threats of the US immigration system and housing inequity. We'll be joined by representatives from the Shir Tikvah Sanctuary and Immigrant Justice Committee, Jewish Community Action, and Twin Cities Habitat For Humanity. For those in person, there will be latkes and toppings.

The Shir Tikvah Sanctuary and Immigrant Justice Committee, in partnership with Lutheran Social Service (LSS) will be collecting outerwear clothing during this program. As we welcome our refugee neighbors in the midst of our MN winter, we hope to gather new or like-new heavy winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and (for children) snowpants.

Please register by Dec. 11 (we’ll need a count for latkes!). This event will be hybrid: both offered in person and on Zoom.
