Va-ani Tefilati Lekha | Making Ourselves a Prayer: Deeping Skills and Practices as Leaders of Prayer with Rabbi Arielle

Shir Tikvah library and Zoom, Free, register here

Join Rabbi Arielle to learn the fundamentals of leading prayer and deepen your sense of how to show up as a shaliach tzibbur (literally: messenger of the community’s prayer).  Hallel is a special flow of psalms of praise and yearning sung on Rosh Chodesh (each new month) and holidays.  Shir Tikvah has been singing Hallel on Zoom together since Pesach 2020 and we’re still going strong!  This series is open to people across the range of experience: from those who have been wanting to learn more about leading prayer to those who regularly lead prayer at Shir Tikvah and beyond.  If you’ve been a regular in this space and want to learn more tools for leading Hallel or if you’ve been wanting to learn more, join Rabbi Arielle for a two-part workshop on how to lead Hallel!

In this workshop we'll cover the liturgy, nusach (musical mode, Ashkenaz), and strategies for choosing melodies for Hallel. Each workshop will build on the past week's material (to participate, we ask that you commit to both sessions). Some prior familiarity with the Hallel service will be helpful to your learning. Ability to read Hebrew is not required. This is a practical learning opportunity that will better prepare you to be able to lead Hallel during Pesach, at Shir Tikvah and beyond…and you’ll have the chance to sign-up to lead an upcoming Hallel service at the end of this series!  This will be an on-going series, focusing on different prayer services
