Final Day of the Elul Food Drive with Joyce Uptown Food Shelf | Aug. 14th - Sept. 11th

Join Shir Tikvah in raising food and funds for Joyce Uptown Food Shelf this Elul. This is an opportunity to connect our community’s practice of teshuvah, tzedakah, and justice with meaningful action in support of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

  • Donation bins will be available in the vestibule throughout each drive for congregants who wish to bring donations to shul

  • We will also encourage congregants to deliver donations directly to Joyce Uptown Food Shelf during our Friday distribution hours (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.), with the hope that the majority of donations will arrive directly at the food shelf. We’ll encourage congregant households to work together in purchasing/collecting food items and delivering items to the food shelf

  • Direct drop-offs reduce the need to transport donations from the synagogue while giving congregants an opportunity to see Joyce’s work firsthand

  • Items Joyce is particularly in need of include canned goods (vegetables, soups, beans; non-expired/dented), pasta, rice (1 lb bags), cereal, ramen, peanut butter, non-perishable snack items (granola bars, individually-packaged fruit snacks, nuts, dried fruit), sugar, personal care items (bar soap, shampoo, deodorant—travel size or conventional), diapers, tampons, pads, and toilet paper

The food drive runs for the entire month of Elul (from sundown on Aug. 14th to sundown on Sept. 11th).
