TIKKUN LEIL SHAVUOT: JEWISH LEARNING (AND NERDING) ALL NIGHT LONG
IN PERSON AT SHIR TIKVAH (1360 W MINNEHAHA PKWY, MINNEAPOLIS) AND ON ZOOM HERE.
Shavuot marks the moment in the Jewish calendar when we remember receiving Torah. With this memory of revelation, Shavuot has become the Superbowl of Jewish learning. Since at least the 17th century, there’s been a tradition to learn all night long on the first evening of Shavuot. This year, we will celebrate this tradition with all night learning sponsored by Mayim Rabim, Shir Tivkah, Hineni, TC Jewish Renewal, Jewish Community Action, Minneapolis Interfaith Power and Light, Twin Cities Mussar, the as-yet-unnamed summer outdoor davening havurah, and J-Pride.
Starting at sunset with an evening community sing, we’ll move through learning that honors heart, head, soul, and body. We’ll think at the intersection of racial justice, reparations and the Book of Ruth, study Ursula K Le Guin on revelation, and dive deep into Jewish mysticism. Weather permitting, our holiday will end with a sunrise Torah parade to Lake Harriet and a prayer service at the Lake. Between learning and song, we’ll snack on cheese cake and dance away sleep. Come for one session, or come all night. Learn on zoom or learn in person. All are welcome. Masks are recommended for our in person learning.
