Tashlich

  • Wirth Lake Beach 3200 Glenwood Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55405 United States (map)

Tashlich rituals invite us to leave behind that which we do not wish to bring into the new year. Tashlich, or "casting off" is a visceral exercise during which we symbolically throw our sins into rushing water. At Shir Tikvah, we also view Tashlich as an opportunity to commit to what we do want to bring with us into the new year.

Spend your afternoon reflecting on 5782 and preparing for 5783 in community! Together we will spend time learning about Tashlich’s origins, considering this transition between the years, filling out our Tashlich cards, and tossing pebbles into the lake. We will also sound shofar and participate in “reverse Tashlich” - a water clean-up project.

We meet at Wirth Lake Beach on Sunday, October 2. Please arrive with a blanket or outdoor chair if you prefer. Wirth Lake Beach is accessible. This gathering is weather-dependent; we will alert via email and social media on Sunday by 2:00pm if we cancel. If you do not hear otherwise, assume we are on.

3:30pm Tot-slich ~ A short Tashlich program for our littlest congregants (newborns to first graders)

4:00pm Tashlich ~ Our community-wide program. You may also join us via Zoom at www.shirtikvah.info/tashlich.
