Tisha B’av and the Kriyah Project
Monday, August 12th at 8:00pm: In Person, Livestream + Zoom
We will gather together to mark Tisha B’av, the Holiday that marks the destruction of the Temple and center Jewish, with a liturgy of tearing and a reading of the Book of Lamentations. You can register here.
Tisha B’av will mark the beginning of a community textile project to help us connect and mourn in a variety of ways throughout the ritual season of the High Holidays. We will begin by tearing used textiles contributed by congregation members for Tisha B’av and the project will culminate at Simchat Torah. We would love to have your used textiles dropped off at Shir Tikvah by Friday, August 9th. There will be a box in the entry way so that you can come by even if the building is closed.
For our textile project please contribute:
Used Button down shirts
Used tablecloths
Only natural fibers – cotton, linen, silk, wool, tencel or bamboo. NO POLYESTER!
If you have multiple items, please prioritize these colors: Blue, Green, Purple and White.
You will hear more about this project at Tisha B’av and Rosh Hashanah. If you are a sewist and would like to participate in helping with your sewing skills please contact Rachel Breen.
