Shofar in the Park

At the heart of the month of Elul is the sound of the shofar, something we are commanded to engage with all month. The blasts from the shofar are meant to awaken us to the needs of the new year - our own, those of our loved ones, and those of others we do and do not know. As they emerge from the mouth of the shofar, these sounds direct our attention to t’shuvah - a return to our better selves. As they echo in our hearts, these vibrations shake us from complacency. With assistance from the shofar, we spend Elul identifying who we want to be in the next year and how we will become them. Elul will help prepare us for this journey of the High Holy Days, if we let it.

Come prepare for the approaching High Holy Days with Shofar in the Park - two opportunities for this Elul practice. Gather in community. Greet old friends and meet new ones. Explore a story or text. And encounter the shofar blasts.

Shofar in the Park is one of our only opportunities to experience the call of the Shofar at Shir Tikvah this season; the shofar will not be sounded on Rosh HaShanah as it will also be shabbat. Do not miss your chance to hang out with the shofar and experience its sounds!

Each gathering is a stand-alone event - attend one or both. Shofar in the Park is family-friendly and all are invited to gather. Shofar in the Park takes place outdoors - rain or shine. Both locations are accessible. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair, and a water bottle. All other materials are provided.

Sunday, August 27 at Loring Park from 4:00pm to 5:00pm
