Gender and Beauty in Jewish Burial

Led by Rabbi Joey Glick, Shir Tikvah (outside on the Minnehaha)

Co-sponsored by J-Pride

The Chevra Kadisha, the traditional Jewish burial society, has been a foundational part of Jewish life for centuries. Over the last 25 years, progressive communities have been taking up and exploring these historic practices, adapting them to the needs of contemporary Jews. During this session, we’ll explore the ways these death rituals reimagine life, challenging standards of beauty and fears of mortality. We’ll also examine contemporary efforts to open these rituals up to bodies and volunteers of all genders.
